This Cookie Policy explains how Stance LLC ("Stance," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit or use our website at stance.today and our applications (collectively, the "Service"). It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control their use.
This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, improve efficiency, and provide information to website operators. They allow a website to recognize your device and remember information about your visit, such as your preferences and login status.
In addition to cookies, we also use local storage, which functions similarly to cookies but is stored within your browser and can hold larger amounts of data. References to "cookies" in this policy include local storage and similar client-side storage technologies unless otherwise specified.
2. Cookies We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Service to function and cannot be disabled. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or setting your privacy preferences.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| stance_session | Authenticates your session and keeps you logged in | 30 days | HTTP-only cookie |
| next-auth.session-token | Fallback authentication token managed by our authentication framework | 30 days | HTTP-only secure cookie |
| __Secure-next-auth.session-token | Secure variant of the authentication token used over HTTPS connections | 30 days | HTTP-only secure cookie |
2.2 Functional Storage
These technologies remember choices you make to improve your experience. They do not track your browsing activity on other websites.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| stance_user | Stores your user profile data locally for a faster experience (username, preferences, display settings) | Until logout | Local storage |
2.3 Analytics and Advertising Cookies
We do not currently use analytics tracking cookies or advertising cookies. If we introduce analytics or advertising cookies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by law, obtain your consent before placing such cookies.
3. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services integrated with Stance may set their own cookies. These include:
- Firebase (Google): Used for push notification delivery. Firebase may set cookies related to its services. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In (when available): If you choose to authenticate through Google or Apple, those providers may set cookies as part of the authentication process. See their respective privacy policies for details.
We do not control third-party cookies and recommend reviewing the respective privacy policies of these services.
4. Mobile Applications
Our mobile applications (iOS and Android) do not use browser cookies. Instead, they use encrypted secure storage provided by the operating system to store your authentication token. Push notification tokens (FCM tokens) are stored on our servers to deliver notifications when enabled. You can manage push notification permissions through your device settings at any time.
5. How to Manage Cookies
You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies (except strictly necessary cookies, which are required for the Service to function). You can manage cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions → Manage and delete cookies
You can also clear local storage by clearing your browser's site data. Please note that disabling or deleting essential cookies may affect the functionality of the Service, and you may not be able to access certain features or may need to re-enter your login credentials.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
