Our Commitment
Stance LLC ("Stance") is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Accessibility Features
We have taken the following measures to ensure the accessibility of the Stance platform:
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. Users can navigate the Service using Tab, Enter, Escape, and arrow keys without requiring a mouse.
- Screen Reader Support: We use semantic HTML elements, ARIA labels, and proper heading hierarchy to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers (e.g., VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack).
- Color Contrast: We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and background elements to meet WCAG AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text).
- Responsive Design: The Service is designed to work across various screen sizes and orientations, from mobile phones to desktop computers.
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for interactive elements to assist keyboard and switch device users.
- Text Scaling: The Service supports browser text scaling and zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Alternative Text: Images include alternative text descriptions for screen reader users.
- Form Labels: All form inputs include associated labels and descriptive error messages.
- Reduced Motion: We respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" system setting and minimize animations for users who have enabled this preference.
Known Limitations
While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, some areas may have limitations:
- User-Generated Content: Opinions and replies submitted by other users may not always meet accessibility standards. We cannot control the accessibility of content authored by third parties.
- Third-Party Content: External source links referenced in daily topics may link to websites outside our control that may not meet accessibility standards.
- User-Uploaded Images: Profile pictures uploaded by users may not include alternative text descriptions.
We are actively working to address these limitations and improve the accessibility of the Service on an ongoing basis.
Compatibility
The Stance web application is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies and browsers:
- Latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- NVDA and JAWS on Windows
- TalkBack on Android
